Research review in Eeyou Istchee
A regional mechanism for reviewing research
The Iiyiyuu Research Review Panel is at the heart of Aashukin’s review mandate. Made up of community representatives from across Eeyou Istchee, the Panel reviews research projects that are not already covered by an existing Cree review process and prepares recommendations for communities, organizations, and researchers. Final authority always remains with the relevant Cree communities, organizations, and authorities.
Each Cree community in Eeyou Istchee is invited to name representatives to serve on the Panel, and Aashukin provides orientation and support for panel members. Any researcher planning work that involves Cree communities, lands, or knowledge is expected to go through this review before beginning fieldwork or community engagement.
